One of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final ties will come our way from the Catalonian city of Barcelona, where on Wednesday evening, Atletico Madrid will be knocking on the door of the Nou Camp, hoping to atone for what was a very recent defeat against their LaLiga rivals.
Both teams made relative light work of reaching this stage of the competition, with both scoring for fun during the previous round. Can either team repeat such offensive antics here?
This really is a game between familiar foes, who’ve seen an awful lot of each other this season. Just a few days ago, the paired clash in LaLiga, renewing their rivalry for the fourth time since December 2025. The Barca boys have had the better of things, winning three out of four, but we have seen Diego Simeone’s men cause problems for Wednesday’s hosts, so much so that I’m taken by a bet on the visitors to make plenty of offensive headway.

Barcelona - Atletico Madrid: Form Analysis
There’s no doubt about it that the hosts are the ones who enter this game in better shape. Not only did Hansi Flick’s men get the better of Atletico just a few days ago, winning away from home by two goals to one, but they’ve now won four games on the bounce, losing none of their last eight, nine of which they’ve won. At home, they’ve won each of their last 19 in all competitions. That’s a hugely impressive record.

Unlike the hosts, the Atleti boys have struggled to be at their best in recent weeks. Despite going through thanks to their strong first-leg efforts, the men who ply their trade in the Spanish capital lost away to Spurs during the last round, which is not something that many teams have done in recent times, and they’ve since followed up with back-to-back domestic defeats, first losing to city rivals Real Madrid, before losing to Barca at the weekend.

Barcelona & Atletico Madrid Squad Analysis
Disappointingly, at least for the hosts, hugely influential winger Raphinha is set to miss this game with a thigh problem, while Frenkie de Jong is another notable absentee. Having dominated Simeone’s men at the weekend, Hansi Flick will likely be tempted to name the same XI, which means that Dani Olmo could continue in an offensive role, though Jules Kounde, who returned as a sub last time out, could come back into the line-up.

The visitors will continue to be without Jan Oblak, which is a big miss between the sticks, while young midfielder Pablo Barrios also remains out. Marc Pubill recently picked up a knock and having missed the last couple of games, is not expected to return here. In a bid to offer more offensively, Alexander Sorloth, who has scored five UCL goals this season, could be restored to the starting XI.

Our Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
The Barca boys did beat Atleti at the weekend, doing so away from home, but for my money, the early market is focusing on this a little too much. We know that the hosts can be caught out on the break, especially at home, while Simeone's men are arguably at their brilliant best in big away games of this nature, so do not be surprised if the men from Madrid get more serious in the final third than they did at the weekend.
Having recently scored twice away against Real Madrid, and having already hurt this Barcelona team this season, at odds of +155, I cannot look at 'Atletico Madrid to Score Over 1.5 Goals' as anything other than a viable bet.
Our Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Pick: Atletico Madrid to Score Over 1.5 Goals.
Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid - Other Interesting Picks
Julian Alvarez to Score or Assist
If anyone is going to deliver the goods offensively for Atletico, then it'll likely be Julian Alvarez, who has been sensational in the UEFA Champions League this season, contributing a whopping 12 goals and assists. During the previous round, the Argentine notched three goals, assisting twice too, while he scored and assisted when Atletico beat Barca in the Copa del Rey earlier in the campaign.
As a man who has scored and assisted five goals in his last five road appearances, including at The Bernabeu, Alvarez is easy to bet on to make a telling contribution on Wednesday.
