After a breakout performance at the Canadian Open three weeks ago, Victoria Mboko has set her sights on a bigger prize at the 2025 US Open.
The Canadian teen sensation is expected to enter Monday’s first-round clash with two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova as a clear-cut favorite at -225. Even before the breakthrough run in Montreal, the 18-year-old Mboko was already a promising young talent on the WTA Tour, winning a bunch of Challenger Tournaments in the early part of the year. However, Mboko showcased her rapid development as she racked up seven consecutive wins to win her first WTA 1000 crown. Mboko toppled several prominent names during her title run, taking down former Grand Slam champions Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Naomi Osaka in the final.
Returning her serves across the net is another multiple Grand Slam winner, Barbora Krejcikova. Krejcikova, a former Wimbledon and French Open champion, crashed out in the first round of the 2025 Washington DC Open but collected three wins to reach the round of 16 at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. Krejcikova will be playing only her sixth hard-court match this year, as injuries significantly delayed her 2025 WTA season debut, causing her to miss several marquee tournaments early this year, including the Australian Open and the Sunshine Doubles.
