The Auburn Tigers will be in the Lone Star State Friday night to get the 2025 college football season rolling with a game against the Baylor Bears. The kickoff is scheduled for Friday, August 30, at 8 p.m. EST at McLane Stadium in Waco, TX. The game will be broadcast on Fox.
Baylor got off to a rough start last season with a bunch of tough games in the first half of their schedule, resulting in a 2-4 start. But then they rattled off six straight wins to finish the regular season with an 8-4 record. Hopes are high for a better start this season with a lot of experience back on both sides of the ball. Sawyer Robertson is back under center and will be joined by Bryson Washington in the backfield behind four of last season’s offensive line. The secondary is going to be tough to throw on right out of the gate. As for Auburn, the Tigers don’t have as many returning starters, but they do have six back on offense and five on defense. Jackson Arnold, a former top recruit for Oklahoma, is set to start at quarterback. He’ll have a couple of his top targets from last season back, along with four starters returning on the offensive line.

I think the wrong team is favored here simply because they are from the SEC. There are many things to like about Auburn. But in Week 1, a team whose offense returned almost intact is going to have a definitive advantage. Auburn has a lot of parts it has to figure out how to get working together against a Baylor defense that has gone from really good to potentially great (if the new starters pan out). I’ve got to go with the team that is much more likely to play well right out of the gate.
