Two teams that were involved in matches this weekend with seven or more goals in their respective leagues will face each other in the Champions League when Atlético de Madrid plays Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday at the Metropolitano stadium in the Spanish capital.
Atlético de Madrid's season came very close to collapsing and any chance of fighting for La Liga would have been lost if they had lost the derby against Real Madrid. However, the opposite happened, and Atlético closed the gap between themselves and Real Madrid to six points, and they did so in an unexpectedly good way by scoring five goals against their rivals.
In the Champions League, Atlético Madrid lost their first match against Liverpool 2-3, in particularly painful fashion, conceding the defeat in the final moments after they had come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2. On a corner kick, Cholo's team paid the price for a costly error in lax marking on a corner kick, which Van Dijk capitalized on to give the Reds the victory.
However, Cholo's team has been, unlike in previous seasons, competent in attack. Llorente scored twice against Liverpool in a superb match on Matchday 1 of the Champions League, but the man of the moment is Julián Álvarez, with five goals in his last two league matches.
