Atlas Guadalajara earned three points in their debut against Puebla, something they achieved despite shooting less than twice as many shots as their opponents. Ultimately, Altas got off to a good start and will now face the title contender and reigning CONCACAF Champions League champion, the tough Cruz Azul, who couldn't find a way to break Mazatlán's goal in their debut and had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
Cruz Azul, coached by Nicolás Larcamón, seems to have rested on the laurels of their great CONCACAF Champions League triumph against Vancouver, having only managed to win one friendly since winning the title. Given the shortness of this tournament, a victory as early as Matchday 2 is urgently needed if they hope to once again secure a place at the top of the table.
