The Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks will face off on Friday to commence their Las Vegas Summer League campaigns.
The Heat will debut their Summer League team this weekend under the tutelage of assistant head coach Eric Glass. Miami is set to unveil its 1-2 punch of athletic big man Kel’el Ware and crafty playmaker Kasparas Jakučionis. These two first-round picks from the previous two drafts are expected to be the cornerstone of the Heat’s Summer League squad over the next two weeks in Las Vegas. Also, watch out for Vladislav Goldin of Michigan and Pelle Larsson and Keshad Johnson of Arizona, who are fighting to land a spot on the Heat’s 15-man roster for the 2025-26 season.
Hawks’ assistant coach Bryan Bailey will serve as the head coach of the Summer League. The Hawks will field former first-round pick Kobe Bufkin of Michigan. Picked No.15 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, Bufkin is expected to take the lead in his third Summer League stint. The Hawks will also debut their 2025 first-round pick, Asa Newell, out of Georgia. Taken 23rd overall by the New Orleans Pelicans, Newell was traded to the Hawks for the draft rights of Derik Queen, the Hawks’ No.13 pick. Newell is a physical specimen who averaged 15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds in his freshman year with the Bulldogs. He and Bufkin are expected to spearhead the Hawks, likely using the fast-paced offense employed by head coach Quinn Snyder.
