The 2026 WNBA season is set to resume this weekend with Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream clashing at Target Center. The Lynx are still looking for their first championship since 2017, when they defeated the Sparks to win their fourth title. They were in great shape last season, topping the Western Conference before losing to the Mercury in Round 2 of the playoffs. The Lynx will be eager to start the campaign strongly and defend their conference crown.
Atlanta Dream, on the other side of the hardwood, will also want to open the season with a win and build on their last season’s success story. The Dream finished first in the Eastern Conference with a .682 win percentage and third in the overall standings. However, they failed to carry their regular-season form into the playoffs, losing 2-1 to Indiana in the first round. Interestingly, they’ll come into this contest as the -162 betting favorites.

Backing the Dream on the moneyline is an exciting proposition. After all, they led the league in rebounding last year with 36.6 rebounds per game. However, Jones, who was their top rebounder last year (7.2 RPG), will miss this contest with a knee injury. We also expect their defense to struggle early in the season due to Jones’ absence and Brittney Griner’s departure. Their replacements, Angel Reese and Okot, boast strong defensive capabilities, although they’re still adjusting to new systems. That learning curve could be costly against elite teams such as the Lynx early in the season. Overall, we don’t see the Lynx dropping their first home game of the season.
