In Monday night MLB action, the Atlanta Braves will travel to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals in a matchup between two teams near the bottom of the NL East standings. The Nationals enter this series with a 62-87 record after picking up two wins in three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the finale of that set, Washington fell behind 3-0 in the opening inning but showed resilience by evening the score in the second frame before plating the decisive run in the eighth to secure a 4-3 victory.
That comeback win highlighted their ability to stay competitive despite their struggles throughout the year. Prior to facing Pittsburgh, the Nationals split a four-game series with the Miami Marlins and managed to take two out of three from the Chicago Cubs. However, Washington has dropped three of its last five contests overall and sits firmly in last place in the NL East.
The Atlanta Braves, at 66-83, are just a few games ahead of Washington and also endured a tough stretch recently. Atlanta is coming off a series loss to the Houston Astros, dropping two of three. In the finale, though, the Braves showed some life, breaking a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning and scoring six of the final seven runs of the game to earn the win. Despite that victory, Atlanta has lost six of its last eight games, including back-to-back series defeats to the Cubs and the Mariners. As a result, they are fourth in the division and playing primarily for pride as the season winds down.

Our Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals Prediction
These two teams come into the matchup with just four games separating them in the standings. Atlanta has gone 30-44 on the road this season, while Washington sits at 31-43 in home contests, underscoring how both clubs have struggled to establish consistency regardless of venue.
The Nationals will hand the ball to left-hander Mitchell Parker, who has had mixed results in recent weeks. In his last five outings, Parker has allowed 2, 2, 3, 6, and 5 earned runs. His command and ability to work deep into the game will be important against a Braves lineup that, while inconsistent, still has the potential to score in bunches.
On the other side, Atlanta will send Spencer Strider to the mound. Strider has electric strikeout stuff but has also been tagged in recent appearances, giving up 2, 3, 1, 7, and 8 earned runs in his last five starts. Given Atlanta’s struggles on the road, Washington has a chance to keep things close, but the Braves appear to have the edge on the mound if Strider settles in. Expect a competitive game, but Atlanta’s ability to capitalize late could give them the upper hand. Our prediction for Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves: Over 8.5 runs.
