On Thursday, more than 40,000 fans at the Phillies-Braves game witnessed a historic event: the 21st occurrence in MLB history of a player hitting four home runs in a single game. Obviously, that player had to be Kyle Schwarber, who further strengthened his case for a possible MVP, now surpassing Ohtani by four home runs and also surpassing the Japanese player with 34 RBIs.
The Phillies ended up winning the game, confirming that they are favorites to win the World Series this year. As if that weren't enough, Harper also hit his 22nd home run of the season, and the Phillies routed the Braves 19-4 with a 20-hit game. Turner hit two, Marsh hit two, and Bader went 4-for-5.
The Phillies won Thursday as a -180 betting favorite; On June 27 in Atlanta, the Phillies had already handed the Braves another 13-0 thrashing.
Now the Phillies will once again be the -180 betting favorite on Friday, with Venezuelan Ranger Suárez pitching. He's been one of the best pitchers in the last two weeks of August, striking out 21 in his last two starts.
