ASVEL faces a tough away game in the Euroleague this week. The Lyon team travels to the Spanish capital to take on Real Madrid, a team with the same record as our French representative. Could the start of the Euroleague season be a great opportunity to win at the Movistar Arena? Pierric Poupet's team will have to put in an XXL performance, as they did twice last week: a 102-95 win over Baskonia followed by an away win over Saint-Quentin (81-76). With confidence high on paper, ASVEL can hope to end a 22-year drought in Madrid.
Real Madrid has had a positive week, as has the French club. Chus Mateo's men have won two games in a row, by a margin of ten points or more. Both results were achieved in front of their fans, which is an important factor to note before the start of this game. The Madrid team has relied on a Mario Hezonja in top form, scoring 18 and 13 points. The former Knicks player is the one who has enabled Real Madrid to be competitive at the start of the season. Add to that a strong squad in all areas of the game, and you have a competitive home team!
