The time is now for both Atletico Madrid and Arsenal. One of these two teams will soon be through to the final of the UEFA Champions League, the most prestigious club competition on planet earth. Can the Gunners build on what was a positive first-leg effort in the Spanish capital and reach a first UCL final since 2006?
Diego Simeone is much more used to reaching one of soccer’s biggest games than Mikel Arteta, having taken Atleti to the UCL final in both 2014 and 2016. Having tied on home soil, the visitors now have the task of getting it done in London, which won’t be easy, especially as the hosts will be feeling confident following what was a commanding performance in front of their own fans at the weekend.
The first leg was a tight and cagey affair, with neither side dominating, with both goals coming from the spot. We can expect more of the same at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal - Atletico Madrid: Form Analysis
Tuesday’s visitors also returned to winning ways at the weekend, defeating Valencia by two goals to zero on the road, winning in typical Atleti style. They’ll now be hoping to repeat those antics in North London, though this will likely be a much tougher task. Generally speaking, the visitors haven’t been too strong on their travels in recent weeks, losing two of their last three, while in all competitions, they’ve lost five of their last seven away games, including in North London against Tottenham.

For the Gunners, home is clearly where the heart is, so much so that Arteta’s men will surely fancy themselves to get over the line here. But for the slightest of blips around a month ago, the Arsenal boys have been very strong at home, winning nine of their last 12 home games in all competitions.

Arsenal & Atletico Madrid Squad Analysis
The hosts will continue to be without Mikel Merino, who has not yet recovered from injury, while Kai Havertz, who has missed large portions of the last two seasons, is once again missing. Jurrien Timber is another absentee for Mikel Arteta to contend with, though the Spaniard certainly has quality options at his disposal. Having been subbed at half-time at the weekend, likely to preserve freshness, Bukayo Saka could start, while Martin Zubimendi is expected to be recalled to the starting XI.
Key man and club legend Antoine Griezmann was used as a sub at the weekend, but he too should be in from the start on Tuesday.
Somewhat wisely, Diego Simeone made several changes for Atleti’s trip to Valencia on Saturday, resting the likes of Julian Alvarez, Ademola Lookman, Marcos Llorente and Jan Oblak, all of whom are expected to return to the starting XI. Key man and club legend Antoine Griezmann was used as a sub at the weekend, but he too should be in from the start on Tuesday.

Our Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
A hugely active offensive player, Julian Alvarez was certainly proactive in his approach during the first leg, shooting no less than six times, working David Raya in the Arsenal goal twice. On the break at Emirates Stadium, the Argentine will be a clear threat, and we know he won't hesitate in going for goal. Consider this in conjunction with his rather strong shooting stats and odds of -133 look very generous indeed.
Our Arsenal vs Atletico Pick: Julian Alvarez 1+ Shots on Target.
