The Arizona Cardinals (6-5 SU, 7-4 ATS) visit the Minnesota Vikings (9-2 SU, 7-3-1 ATS) in what could be a preview of the postseason. The Cardinals are currently sitting in a first-place tie in the NFC West, which might be good enough to earn them the No. 4 seed. But doing so would mean a tough first-round assignment, as they would almost surely draw either the Vikings or the Green Bay Packers.
Both Minnesota and Green Bay have fought gamely in the NFC North, but neither has been quite up to the level of the Detroit Lions, who are running away with the NFC. Unless Minnesota can go into Detroit and upset the Lions, it is playing to hold off Green Bay and finish fifth in the conference. The Vikings have played well enough to win most games, but they tend to make it very interesting: only Tennessee and Houston fell by more than eight points since Week 1.

Arizona appears to be a good team that’s beating bad teams, not a great team. The Cardinals’ best win of the season is probably over the Chargers, which wasn’t exactly a statement victory. Otherwise, they’ve mostly beaten non-playoff teams, winning over the likes of the Jets, Bears and Dolphins. Last week against Seattle, Arizona looked completely stuck in the mud, scoring just six points.
The Vikings are susceptible to the pass, but Arizona doesn’t throw the ball all that well. The Cardinals are far more comfortable when they can move the ball on the ground, which plays right into Minnesota’s hands. The Vikings own the best run defense in the NFL, and the Cardinals are not likely to have a lot of opportunities on the ground. If they have to go to the air, this could be a comfortable victory for Minnesota. Our prediction for Arizona vs. Minnesota is Vikings -3.5.
