At the WTA event in Osaka, not for the first time in recent months, Ann Li and Rebecca Sramkova will clash. These two recently met at the US Open, where it was the American who came out on top, winning by two sets to one, though she hasn't exactly kicked on since then. We saw Li lose her first match in Beijing, while she exited at the second-round stage in Wuhan. A first-round success against world number 83 Gracheva will have given her some confidence ahead of this clash, but don't be too surprised if she finds this tough.
Li's Slovakian opponent will surely fancy herself to do better than she did at Flushing Meadows. After all, she's improved since, picking up some very positive wins, while she also made life tough for the best in the business (Aryna Sabalenka) recently.
