Angel City will host Chicago Red Stars in their first game of the 2026 NWSL season at BMO Stadium on Sunday night. Angel City missed out on a playoff spot last season by 9 points after a poor season in which they won just seven of their 26 games. They’ve since brought in Emily Sams and Ary Borgs to strengthen their defense and midfield after giving up 41 goals last season. These two could raise the ceiling at BMO Stadium.
Chicago Red Stars, meanwhile, had a campaign to forget last season after finishing last with 20 points. They won only three times throughout the season, with their last kick ending in a 2-1 win over Angel City. Chicago Stars could be worse off this season after trading off Brazilian forward Ludmila, who scored 10 goals in their previous campaign. However, it will be interesting to see how their new head coach, Martin Sjogren, steers the team early in the season.
