Andrey Rublev of Russia will go for his second hard-court quarterfinal in three weeks as he faces off with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain in the fourth round on Sunday.
Rublev, who reached the semifinal of the Los Cabos Open in the first week of the North American hard-court season, earned his spot in the round-of-16 in Toronto by outlasting Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 5-7 6-4 6-3. Rublev rebounded from a subpar first set by outplaying Sonego in the following two sets. The former world’s No.5 won 88 percent of his first serves and broke four times to complete the comeback win.
Davidovich Fokina dismantled reigning Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik 6-2, 6-4 to book another round-of-16 stint in Toronto. Fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Alex De Minaur in the final of the 2025 Washington Open, Fokina is playing with a chip on his shoulder in this tournament, and it has powered him to convincing wins over Corentin Moutet 6-4 6-3 and Mensik.

Our Andrey Rublev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Prediction
Fearless Forecast – Andrey Rublev regains mastery over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
With a 5-1 head-to-head record against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Andrey Rublev is my pick to cover the spread on Sunday. On paper, Fokina is the overwhelming favorite since he’s coming off a final stint in Washington and won his last encounter with Rublev in the second round of the Barcelona Open. But here’s the catch: Fokina is 0-2 vs. Rublev in hard-court matches. In what is shaping up to be another close battle, the Russian remains a formidable player despite an underwhelming year on the tour. Fokina may have the momentum, yet Rublev can turn the tables if he starts rattling off points with his high-risk, high-reward playing style.
Our betting prediction for Andrey Rublev vs. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina: Andrey Rublev +2.5 Games.
