Amanda Anisimova of the United States will try to barge into her second semifinal appearance in two weeks on Friday as she tussles with Liudmila Samsonova of Russia in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Berlin Ladies Open.
Almost a week since falling short of winning the title at Queens, Anisimova has gone quarterfinal deep again in Berlin after posting wins over Bianca Andreescu 6-4 6-3 and Magdalena Frech 6-2 4-6 6-3 in the previous two rounds. Anisimova has held 70 percent of her serves and already won 10 out of 15 breakpoint chances in this tournament.
Samsonova has now earned herself the title of the comeback queen in Berlin after scoring her second come-from-behind win on Thursday against Jessica Pegula of the United States 6-7(8) 7-5 7-6(5). Samsonova, who had squeaked past Noami Osaka 3-6 7-6(3) 6-4 in the first round, fired 18 aces and recorded 59 points off her first serves against Pegula. Samsonova also deserved some credit for exhibiting incredible poise under pressure, especially in the third-set tiebreaker.
