Amanda Anisimova of the United States will attempt to take her strong run at the Trophee Clarins to the championship rounds as she laces it up against Chloe Paquet of France in the quarterfinal.
Anisimova, the world’s No.17 and No.1, seed cruised to another breezy win on Thursday, downing WTA veteran Petra Martic in 15 games 6-0 6-3. Anisimova smashed through Martic’s serves 4 times and won 27 first-serve points on top of 3 aces. The American, who also dismantled Yuliia Starodubtseva of Ukraine 6-1 6-2, seems to have regained her competitive fie in this tourney after getting the boot in her opening matches in Madrid and Rome.
Paquet registered a clinical win over Anastasia Zakharova 6-3 6-3 roughly 24 hours after surviving Kim Birrell of Australia 7-5 3-6 6-3. Paquet’s serves hit the mark most of the time in this match, firing 10 aces and winning 33 points off her first serves. The win sent Paquet to the quarterfinal for the first time since reaching the semis of W100 Madrid in April, where she lost to Mayar Sherif 6-2, 6-4.
