Two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova begins her Cincinnati Open campaign on Friday against Alycia Parks of the United States.
Krejcikova will try to regain her confidence following a first-round exit at the 2025 Canadian Open. Krejcikova, who could not defend the Wimbledon Open title after crashing out in the third round, opened her North American hard-court season with a loss to former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu 4-6, 3-6 in the first round. Krejcikova owns a 120-87 record on the hard court. However, she has so far played only one match on the surface this year because of a back injury that pushed her 2025 debut to May, forcing her to miss the Australian Open and the Sunshine Doubles.
Parks lost to Caty McNally 6-4 5-7 7-6(7) in the first round of the 2025 Canadian Open. Ranked No.74 in the world, Parks carries a 12-8 record on the hard court this year. Parks is also 9-7 in WTA 1000-level tournaments this year, though 5 of these wins came in the qualification stages.

On the other hand, I also think that Parks will hold her own against Krejcikova in their second career match. Parks lost to the Czech in straight sets in their first encounter in the quarterfinal of the 2022 Strave Open, 7-6(7) 6-3. This was the time when Krejcikova was still a top-10 performer, and yet Parks still managed to match up well against the Czech.
