After Friday’s two games, the last two quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations will take place, starting with Algeria vs Nigeria, which gets underway at 11:00 AM for those watching on Eastern Time. Having cruised through the groups, winning three out of three, the Algerians didn’t exactly make light work of beating D.R. Congo during the Round of 16. They failed to score in regulation time, just about getting over the line in extra time, courtesy of a 119th minute goal from substitute Adil Boulbina, who netted for the first time at this prestigious tournament.
It wasn’t close-cut for the Nigerians, who absolutely demolished Mozambique, winning by four goals to zero, flying through to the last eight in decisive fashion. The Super Eagles look super strong and should fancy themselves to go deep into the tournament.

Algeria - Nigeria: Form Analysis
All in all, the Algerians have been consistent since arriving in Morocco. Vladimir Petkovic’s men know how to take the sting out of games, they can dominate the ball, while with players like Riyadh Mahrez, Fares Chaibi, Mohamed Amoura and the exciting Ibrahim Maza, they have no shortage of offensive quality. If the Nigerians are too cavalier, the Fennec Foxes will make them pay, that’s for sure.

From a Nigerian point of view, it’s been explosive stuff. The Super Eagles flexed their muscles during the groups, winning three out of three in offensive style, scoring a total of eight goals. They too have lots of forward quality and are seemingly happy to go toe-to-toe with any team, which makes any game involving Eric Chelle’s men an entertaining one. The question is, will they be tight enough at the back against a very decent Algeria offense?

Algeria & Nigeria Squad Analysis
The Algerians will continue to be without the services of Houssem Aouar, who has not yet featured in Morocco due to a groin problem. Jaouen Hadjam featured as a substitute twice during the group stages, but has since suffered an ankle injury and is not likely to be involved, while there are also serious doubts over the fitness of Ismael Bennacer, who was forced off early last time out.

Forward Cyrel Dessers traveled with the Nigeria squad to Morocco, but is yet to feature thanks to an injury problem. The Panathinaikos player is not expected to return here. Other than that, Eric Chelle has a fully fit squad to choose from and is unlikely to make many changes.

Our Algeria vs Nigeria Prediction
It's reasonable to assume that most of the quarter-finals will be cagey affairs, but if there is one game that could easily explode into high-scoring life, then it's probably this one. The Nigerians have taken a very cavalier approach, which has resulted in some open and high-scoring games. Given that each of their four games at the tournament so far have contained at least three goals, 'Over 2.5 Goals' looks generously priced as far as I'm concerned.
We know that both teams boast a serious amount of quality, and given that Eric Chelle's men are highly unlikely to sit back, this shouid be a game that provides no shortage of scoring opportunities, and I'm just not sure that the early odds reflect this accurately enough.
Our Algeria vs Nigeria Pick: Over 2.5 Goals.
Algeria vs Nigeria - Other Interesting Picks
Algeria to Score Over 1.5 Goals
The Nigerians have taken a seriously offensive approach, which could pay dividends in Marrakech, though it's far from difficult to see the Super Eagles coming unstuck at the back. The Algerians have lots of offensive quality, so much so that they look a little generously priced to notch a couple of goals against what is a very open team, one that conceded three goals against lesser teams during the group stages.
