Filipino teen sensation Alexandra Eala gets her Italian Open campaign under way on Wednesday, as she goes up against a tough first-round opponent in Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine.
Eala has just cracked the WTA top-70 in the latest ranking update, making her the youngest Asian to make it in this elite list. Eala is facing a formidable first-round foe in Marta Kostyuk, a quarterfinalist in Madrid. Kostyuk had rattled off three impressive wins over Emma Raducanu 6-4 2-6 6-2, Veronika Kudermetova 6-0 4-6 6-4, and Anastasia Potapova 6-3 6-2 before she fell short of upsetting current world’s No.1 and eventual Madrid Open champion Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(4) 7-6(7).
