Alexandra Eala will get her grass-court season started on Tuesday, facing Linda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic in the first round of the WTA 125 event, Lexus Birmingham Open.
Eala will try to put her disappointing Grand Slam debut behind her as she aims to improve her standing on the world ranking by getting strong results on the grass. Eala made her Grand Slam debut at the French Open, losing to Emiliana Arango of Colombia 0-6 6-2 3-6. On grass, the Filipina sports a 5-3 record and came one win away from making what would have been her Grand Slam debut at the 2024 Wimbledon Open after bowing to Lulu Sun of New Zealand 6(3)-7, 5-7 in the qualifying final.
Fruhvirtova has lost her last four matches heading into the grass court season, failing to qualify for the main draw of the French Open after falling to Linda Klimovicova 4-6, 4-6 in the first qualifying match. Ranked 152nd in the world, Fruhvirtova’s best finish in a WTA tournament happened three years ago at the 2022 Chennai Open, winning the crown after beating Magda Linette 4–6, 6–3, 6–4.
