No.1 seed Alexander Zverev will lock horns with Karen Khachanov of Russia in Wednesday's men’s singles semifinal of the 2025 Canadian Open.
Zverev clinched his spot in the semis after dethroning defending champion Alexei Popyrin in a hotly-contested three-set match 6-7(8) 6-4 6-3. The No.1 seed conceded the first set in a tiebreaker but stormed back into the game by punishing Zverev on the serve. Zverev scored 56 points off the first serves to hold all except one service game. He also fired 12 aces and broke Popyrin three times.
Khachanov earned his ticket to the final with a straight-set victory over Alex Michelsen 6-4 7-6(3). After winning 97 percent of his first serves to beat former world’s No.2 Casper Ruud 6-4 7-5 in the fourth round, the Russian put on another serving clinic, winning 85 percent of his first serves and 50 percent of his second. Khachanov surrendered one service break while securing two key breakpoints against Michelsen.
