Alexander Zverev of Germany will try to clinch his 9th quarterfinal appearance this year when he goes up against Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina on Saturday.
Zverev reached the round of 16 in Toronto after gutting out a 6-7(5) 6-3 6-2 win over Mateo Arnaldi of Italy. After winning 93 percent of his first serves en route to a 7-6(6) 6-4 win over Adam Walton of Australia in the second round, Zverev achieved a 77 percent success rate in his first serves, helping him hold all but one service game against Arnaldi. Zverev also broke serve four times, most of which were scored during his rally in the second and third sets.
Cerundolo also moved one win away from also securing a 9th quarterfinal stint this year after easing through Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3 6-4 in their third-round tussle on Thursday. Despite playing his second match in less than 48 hours, Cerundolo never showed signs of wear and tear in his straight-set conquest of his compatriot and long rival. Cerundolo finished with 23 first-serve points and added 22 more points off the second serves, while earning three breakpoints.

Our Alexander Zverev vs Francisco Cerundolo Prediction
Fearless Forecast – Francisco Cerundolo will win at least a set versus Alexander Zverev.
Regardless of a win or a loss, Francisco Cerundolo will almost certainly give Alexander Zverev another tough battle on Saturday. Cerundolo is 3-0 in his head-to-head series with Zverev. And although all of those wins took place on clay court, where Cerundolo was supposed to have some advantage by being a South American clay-court expert,
I still like the Argentine’s chances against Zverev primarily because he’s also a superb hard-court player. Cerundolo carries a career 53.8 percent win rate on hard courts and a 10-4 record on the surface this year. Zverev holds an imposing 13-4 record on concrete floors this year. Still, he has always encountered difficulties facing Cerundolo, maybe because of his versatility and the ability to adjust on the fly.
I would have picked Cerundolo to win 2-0. However, knowing that Zverev can turn it up anytime, opting for a more conservative option is the way to go,
Our betting prediction for Francisco Cerundolo vs. Alexander Zverev: Francisco Cerundolo +1.5 sets.
