Looking to set a date with destiny, Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan will take on Daniil Medvedev of Russia for the Halle Open title on Sunday in Halle, Germany.
Bublik has taken down three seeded opponents in Halle after Saturday’s 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4 win over No.8 seed Karen Khachanov of Russia in the semifinal. For a third consecutive time, Bublik surrendered only one service break against his opponent as the Kazakh controlled the tempo by winning 54 points off the first serves and 18 off the second, on top of 19 aces. Bublik has now extended his win streak to four matches and won 8 of his last 9 matches, including the four wins during his French Open quarterfinal run.
Medvedev made it to the final at Halle after grinding out a three-set win over Alexander Zverev 7-6(3) 6-7(1) 6-4 in the semifinal. Medvedev fired 17 aces in the match and won 61 points off the first serves. He also broke Zverev 2 times in the match, including a key break in the third game of the third set that allowed him to earn a crucial 2-1 lead and a hold in the next game.
