A couple of Top 15 competitors from the Flyweight Division will do battle in the octagon during the prelims of UFC 324. Charles Johnson and Alex Perez are set to faceoff in what could be an interesting clash of styles. Perez has a 2.25 takedown average, and Johnson very rarely shoots for a takedown.

Alex Perez has had a tough road over his last 5 fights. On paper, his 1-4 mark seems woeful. However, when you consider his opponents, it is not that discouraging. 2 of those losses came to Muhammad Mokev, who was undefeated, and Alexandre Pantoja, who would become champion. His other 2 losses, to Tatsuro Taira and Asu Almabayev, are a combined 41-4. Perez has lost, but the competition is arguably the toughest of anyone over the same stretch.

Johnson has had more success lately. Winning 5 of his last 6 has been great for him and his camp. Before that stretch, he was on a 3-fight losing streak that was putting his future with the UFC in jeopardy. His opponents have not all been to the level of Perez’s opponents, but you can not deny the fact that he has a win over the current champion, Joshua Van.

The winner of this fight is sure to move into the top 10 of the rankings. Both men have had a lengthy fighting career and will be focused on making the most of this opportunity.
