Alex De Minaur of Australia goes head-to-head with Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain in the first round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open.
De Minaur enters this year’s tournament at the All-England Club aiming for a better finish after making a run to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Open. It has been a rocky last two months for De Minaur, who has dropped out of the top 10 following a second-round finish at Roland Garros and another first-round exit at the Queen’s Club.
Carballes Baena received a direct entry into the Wimbledon Open as he still ranks inside the ATP Top-100 at world’s No.74. The Spaniard had not played a single grass-court match since pulling out of his first-round match with Valentin Royer of France in the first round of the 2025 French Open because of a psoas injury. It remains unclear how severe the back and hip injury was, but I would assume it was serious enough that Carballe Baena had to withdraw from the French Open and stay inactive in the last three weeks.
