Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain will face Jakub Mensik of Czech Republic to open a loaded schedule on the second day of the third round of the men’s singles tournament at the 2025 Canadian Open.
Fokina picked up his fifth win since kicking off his North American hard-court campaign, topping Corentin Moutet of France 6-4 6-3 on Wednesday. The Spaniard is trying to erase the memory of a devastating loss to Alex De Minaur in the final of the 2025 Washington Open. Fokina had three championship points but blew all chances to an incredibly resilient De Minaur, reducing him to tears after the match. Despite the recent heartbreak, Fokina is determined to bounce back and strive for another title opportunity.
Mensik also passed the first test in Toronto as he hacked out 6-4, 6-4 win over Tristan Boyer of the United States. Mensik, the 2025 Miami Open champion, staved off a spirited challenge from Boyer by outplaying the American for the pivotal points of the match. Mensik fired 13 aces and won 94 percent of his first serves, denying Boyer from scoring a single breakpoint.
