The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season kicks off this week in New York City! In one of the first-round matches, 32-year-old Australian Ajla Tomljanovic will face 21-year-old American Coco Gauff in hopes of advancing to the second round.
In her 12th appearance at the US Open, Ajla Tomljanovic will face an uphill battle in the first round, as the draw has pitted her against a top-three player. Although she has managed to get past the first round for four consecutive seasons, this year is likely to be a tough one for the Australian. She has not managed to string together two consecutive wins on hard courts this summer and has not done so since May at the clay court tournament in Rabat.
For her part, Coco Gauff achieved the exceptional feat of winning the title at the French Open this year. After being knocked out in the first round at Wimbledon, the American should have a whole new motivation in this Grand Slam, as she has the chance to play in front of her home crowd and has already won the title in 2023. She should have no trouble reaching the second round quickly, as she has done since the 2020 season.
