Laver Cup 2025: Europe in search of a sixth title

Less than two weeks after the US Open, which set the pace for our tennis predictions, some of the best players on the circuit will be in San Francisco to compete in the Laver Cup.

This year, the European team will be looking strong with two of the world's top three players, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. The six players available to Yannick Noah, captain of Team Europe, are all ranked in the world's top 25 and make Team Europe the clear favorite for the 2025 edition, as they seek a sixth title in this competition after 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2024.

However, it would be wise not to underestimate the rest of the world, which will be cheered on by the Californian crowd. Four American players will be in San Francisco to defend Team World: Taylor Fritz, Alex Michelsen, Reilly Opelka, and Jenson Brooksby.

While on paper the rest of the world's team may seem to be at a disadvantage, Team World will have several assets up its sleeve, with Taylor Fritz of course, but also Alex De Minaur. Nevertheless, victory in the 2025 Laver Cup for Andre Agassi's Team World will inevitably require some impressive performances in California.

Although several names have been ruled out of the 2025 Laver Cup due to injury, personal choice, or rest, both teams will look strong with Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi as captains:

2025 Laver Cup: schedule and rules

The two teams will compete over three days, with a few rules to follow. Each player on the two teams must play at least one singles match on Friday or Saturday, with a maximum of two matches per player. For doubles, at least four of the six players must be fielded. Matches will be played as best-of-three sets, with the third set being played as a 10-point super tiebreak.

Friday, September 19: two singles matches in the afternoon, one singles match and one doubles match in the evening.
Saturday, September 20: two singles matches in the afternoon, one singles match and one doubles match in the evening.
Sunday, September 21: one doubles match to start, followed by three singles matches (if necessary).

Team Europe: Favorites on paper

Victorious last year in Berlin, Team Europe has everything it needs on paper to retain its trophy. With two players in the world's top three, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, as well as players who have long been in the top 10, such as Holger Rune and Casper Ruud, the European team seems superior to Team World, with a wide range of options for Yannick Noah.

While the rest of the world has Taylor Fritz and Alex De Minaur, the rest of the team is a notch below Europe. Our prediction for the winner of the 2025 Laver Cup is another victory for Team Europe!
