Two English teams will decide Europe's first international competition on Wednesday at San Mamés Stadium at 3:00 PM ET. Despite both suffering through one of the worst Premier League campaigns in their history, the continental outlook is the only silver lining they can take as the 2024-25 season draws to a close.

2024–25 Premier League: A Season to Forget for Tottenham and Manchester United

Once mainstays at the top of the Premier League, both Tottenham and Manchester United have endured one of their worst seasons in recent memory. With just one matchday remaining, the “Spurs” and the “Red Devils” sit in 17th and 16th place, respectively, just one step away from relegation. It's a shocking fall from grace for two clubs that are part of the Premier League’s traditional “Big Six.”

UEL: Tottenham vs Man U

Tottenham’s Second International Final in 7 Years

Tottenham return to a European final for the first time since the 2018–19 Champions League, and there are some clear parallels. In both cases, they face an English opponent (Liverpool in the UCL, Manchester United in the UEL), and both finals are being held in Spain (Madrid in 2019, Bilbao this year).

Tottenham back in the Finals

It’s been over three decades since Spurs last lifted a European trophy—back in 1984, when they won this same competition, then known as the UEFA Cup. Despite some near-misses in domestic tournaments—including a Premier League runner-up finish and three League Cup final losses (2008–09, 2014–15, and 2020–21)—Tottenham have repeatedly fallen short on the big stage.

Betting Tip: Avoid betting on Tottenham to lift the trophy.

All the Pressure's on Manchester United

Manchester United come in as slight favorites, thanks to their history and silverware. As one of England’s most decorated clubs, expectations are high. Under Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim, the Red Devils have a shot at winning their second Europa League title, their first coming in 2016–17 under José Mourinho.

UEL Pressure's on for Man U

While their Premier League form has been shaky, they’ve been dominant in Europe this season. United went unbeaten in the group stage (5 wins, 3 draws), and then knocked out Real Sociedad, Lyon, and Athletic Club in the knockout rounds, tallying 4 wins and 3 draws in the process. They’ve averaged an impressive 3.1 goals per match during the playoffs, further solidifying their status as tournament favorites.

Winning the Europa League would also secure United a spot in the 2025–26 Champions League and earn them a place in the UEFA Super Cup against this season’s UCL winner, potentially adding another trophy to their already stacked cabinet.

Betting Tip: Bet on Manchester United to score over 1.5 goals based on their scoring average in the knockout stages.
