ATP Stuttgart: Americans Looking to Make Up Ground on Grass
This tournament is shaping up to be the perfect opportunity for several players looking to bounce back after the French Open, which wrapped up just this past Sunday. As we move to the grass courts, American players will begin to find their footing once again as they traditionally prefer grass or hard court as opposed to clay.
An American Threat
Second seed Taylor Fritz could have been a serious contender for the title. Last year, he won the grass-court tournament in Eastbourne as the top seed, defeating Max Purcell, and followed that up with a strong run to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where he fell to Lorenzo Musetti. However, his recent form in 2025 leaves much to be desired, he’s lost 4 of his last 5 matches and has only managed to string together more than two wins in a row once this season, back in March at the Miami Open on hard court.
A German for the Title?
German fans have been waiting since 1991, when Michael Stich lifted the trophy, to see one of their own win again in Stuttgart. And 2025 might finally be the year, with world No. 3 Alexander Zverev headlining the draw as the top seed. Fresh off a quarterfinal showing at the French Open against Novak Djokovic, the 28-year-old clearly thrives on home soil. He won the Munich title in April by defeating top-15 player Ben Shelton. That victory came on clay, but Zverev has also proven his strength on grass, beginning last year’s grass season with a solid win streak and reaching the semifinals in Halle. He followed that with a fourth-round run at Wimbledon. Now, Zverev will be aiming for an even stronger preparation to give himself the best shot at the upcoming Grand Slam in London.
Our pick to win the title: Alexander Zverev to win!
ATP Hertogenbosch: A Wide-Open Edition to Succeed Alex de Minaur
The ATP tournament in Hertogenbosch marks the start of the 2025 grass-court season! Just three weeks before Wimbledon, players head to the Netherlands to adjust to the fast surface where big servers often shine.
This 2025 edition features a very balanced field, with four players from the top 25 competing to claim the title and follow in the footsteps of Australian Alex de Minaur, last year’s winner. Here’s a look at our favorites this week for your ATP Hertogenbosch predictions.
Daniil Medvedev Seeking a Comeback
Can Daniil Medvedev finally bounce back in what has been a tough season? The Russian has had a string of disappointments since the start of the year and hopes the grass can reignite his best form.
Now ranked 11th in the world, Medvedev has left clay behind, a surface he never enjoyed, for the much faster grass, where he has previously shone (two Wimbledon semifinals).
If he finds the level he’s shown on grass in the past, Medvedev could very well be our top pick to win the ATP Hertogenbosch title and headlines our tennis predictions.
Our pick to win ATP Hertogenbosch: Daniil Medvedev
Hubert Hurkacz: Always a Threat on Grass
After battling injuries, Hubert Hurkacz has regained rhythm in recent weeks. Although he crashed out early at the French Open (1st round loss to Joao Fonseca), the switch to grass could allow the world No. 32 to return to his rightful top-10 level.
A Wimbledon semifinalist and runner-up last year in Halle, Hurkacz’s big serve and aggressive game style make him a serious contender, if his body holds up.
ATP Hertogenbosch Dark Horses
- Alexei Popyrin: In great form after reaching the Round of 16 at the French Open, the Aussie feels more comfortable on grass and could surprise.
- Karen Khachanov: Inconsistent but dangerous, the Russian (ranked No. 24) has the tools to shine on any surface, if his mindset matches his talent.
