L'AS Rome, 7ème à 3 points du Top 4, a besoin d'une victoire contre la Fiorentina, 9ème à 8 longueurs de son adversaire du jour, pour se rapprocher des places donnant accès à la Ligue des Champions. La bande à Mourinho s'est remise sur de bons rails après 3 journées compliquées (2 nuls et 1 défaite) avant la trêve internationale. Les Romains débutent cette année 2023 de fort belle manière avec 1 succès sur Bologne (1-0) et 1 nul sur le terrain du Milan AC (2-2) en Serie A puis avec 1 qualification pour les 1/4 de finale de la Coupe d'Italie après avoir sorti le Genoa (1-0) ce jeudi soir. La Fiorentina connait exactement le même parcours en ce début d'année. La Viola a également pris 4 points depuis le 1er janvier contre Monza (1-1) et face à Sassuolo (2-1) puis a éliminé la Sampdoria Gênes (1-0) en 1/8ème de finale de la Coupe d'Italie ce 12 janvier. Défaite à 4 reprises en championnat à l'extérieur sur les terrains de l'Udinese (1-0), de Bologne (2-1), de l'Atalanta Bergame (1-0) et du Milan AC (2-1), la Fiorentina pourrait tomber à nouveau chez une grosse écurie !
