La pression s’accentue sur la Championship lors du sprint final. Leader pendant un long moment, Leeds United a connu une semaine précédente assez compliquée. Heureusement pour les Peacocks, la première place a été récupérée au détriment du Burnley, grâce à la victoire acquise sur le terrain de Middlesbrough mardi soir. Vainqueur de Boro sans encaisser le moindre but pour la première fois depuis 270 minutes, le groupe entraîné par Daniel Farke a réalisé une prestation XXL dans le secteur défensif au meilleur des moments. Après l’échec de la saison passée, les Peacocks ne peuvent se permettre un nouvel échec à ce stade de la saison. Frustrés par le dernier match à Elland Road, les Whites sont attendus au tournant par le people jaune et blanc au terme du temps réglementaire. 

Une victoire des locaux est attendue au coup de sifflet final. Preston n’est pas censé être un adversaire dangereux pour l’un des anciens pensionnaires de la Premier League. Par contre, cette 42e journée est importante côté PNE. En effet, l’écart avec la zone de relégation est de sept petites unités. Avec 21 unités à distribuer, tous les scénarios sont possibles sur la période avril / mai. Sans aucune victoire depuis quatre parties et deux buts encaissés en moyenne, les hommes dirigés par Paul Heckingbottom vont devoir réaliser une performance parfaite des deux côtés du terrain pour espérer frapper un grand coup sur le sol anglais.
