Old rivals the USA and Canada lock horns once again, as they face off in a prestigious women's international friendly in Washington this Wednesday. Both teams come into this matchup on the back of convincing victories in their last games. The US dismantled the Republic of Ireland 4-0, thanks to goals from Lynn Biyendolo, Emma Sears, Yazmeen Ryan, and Alyssa Thompson. Meanwhile, Canada eased to a comfortable 4-1 success over Costa Rica with Shelina Zadorsky, Holly Ward, Zara Chavoshi and Emma Regan all scoring in the final twenty minutes.
The last two contests between the two sides have ended all square, but overall the USA have a huge 54-4 lead in the head-to-head. Canada's last victory over the US was at the 2021 Olympics, when they defeated their rivals 1-0 in the semi-finals.

USA W - Canada W: Form Analysis
After shock defeats to Japan and Brazil in the early part of 2025, the USWNT have gone on a four game winning run, scoring 15 goals without reply. Since Emma Hayes took over as head coach last year, the US have won 11 of their 13 matches. That run includes a 100% record at the 2024 Olympics, as the US swept to their first gold medal since 2012.
Canada hitting their stride
Since losing on penalties to Germany in the quarter finals of last year's Olympics, Canada have put together an impressive run of seven wins, three draws and just one defeat. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the majority of their games over the last 12 months have been against relatively weak opponents such as Haiti, Chinese Taipei and Costa Rica. Wednesday's match in Washington will easily be the toughest test of the year for Casey Stoney's side.

Emma Hayes is likely to field a full strength starting eleven after resting several key players for the victory over the Republic of Ireland. Defender Izzy Rodriguez and central midfielder Sam Meza made their debuts in that game, but are likely to be on the bench on Wednesday evening. That game against Ireland saw Lynn Biyendolo captain the side for the first time, an occasion that the forward marked with a goal and a fine all round display.
Canada to ring the changes
Despite winning 4-1, coach Casey Stoney was unimpressed with Canada's overall performance against Costa Rica. As such, she will probably make wholesale changes to her starting lineup as the team builds towards the 2027 World Cup. Mimi Alidou was one player who emerged from the Costa Rica game with credit and is likely to earn a start against the US. The midfielder won a penalty after coming off the bench and caused plenty of problems with her direct running.
