The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Toronto Blue Jays are set for a rubber match on Wednesday after going 1-1 in the first two games of their series at PNC Park.
The Blue Jays evened the series at 1-1 as Max Scherzer dominated his duel with Max Keller, surrendering one earned run over six innings to help his team secure a 7-3 win on Tuesday. Toronto (74-53) nabbed its third win in five games, but more importantly, this victory has given them a five-game cushion on the trailing New York Yankees (68-57) in the AL East title race.
Meanwhile, the Pirates suffered their third loss in four games following another subpar stint by Mitch Keller. Keller, who surrendered six earned runs in a 5-12 loss to the Brewers several days ago, gave up five earned runs in 3.1 innings against the Blue Jays. The Pirates are 53-76 this season – last in the NL Central.
