The Guardians ended a streak of six untimely losses that left them with little chance of a wild card in the final month of the season. After being shut out and losing 0-9 in Game 1, the Guards blanked the Rays on Tuesday, beating them 3-0 behind seven innings pitched by Messik.
Still, the Guardians' lackluster offense, which ranks last in MLB's overall AVG and is the main culprit in the losing streak, is a concern. Even in Tuesday's win, the Guardians won with just three hits. One of them came from their leadoff hitter, Kwan, who went 1-for-4 and has had a poor finish to August. In the victory, the team's star, José Ramírez, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
While the Guardians only managed 5 hits in the first two games of their series against the Rays, Tampa Bay hit 14 in Game 1; before that, they had won a series on home runs against the Cardinals.
At just 22 years old, Rays fans have one of the most promising young players on their team: Junior Caminero, who has even hit 39 home runs this season, competing with MLB veterans Raleigh, Ohtani, Schwarber, Judge, and Suarez for the lead in the majors for most home runs.
