While the Rangers rested on Thursday, the Mariners were thrashed by the Twins in Minnesota in the final of a four-game split. Now these AL East rivals will face each other in a key weekend series.
After 80 games, the Mariners, Angels, and Rangers have nearly the same record, winning evenly, but the Astros pulled away by six games. In the recent Rangers-Mariners series, Seattle has had the upper hand, winning eight of their last 10 games. They previously faced each other in Texas in early May in a series that the Mariners won in Games 1 and 2.
The Rangers are coming off a 7-0 victory over the Orioles, winning the series on another gem of a pitch from DeGrom, who took the no-hitter into the eighth inning. On the hitting side, Jung hit his eighth home run of the year, as did Heim.
