Sporting a 1-4 record in their last five games, the Seattle Mariners opened as surprising -115 favorites in Game 1 of their three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies outgunned the Washington Nationals 11-9 in Game 4 to salvage a 2-2 tie in their four-game series over the weekend. It might not be a convincing win over the worst team in the NL East, but scoring 11 runs in a single game is a good sign for the Phillies, who barely averaged three runs a game in the last five games before Sunday’s ballgame.
