Two elite pitchers will face each other in the first game of the Mariners-Tigers series, which will run all weekend at Comerica Park. A large crowd is expected on Friday to see the Tigers take on a wild-card contender, the Mariners, but also because the pitching matchup couldn't be more compelling: Luis Castillo vs. Tarik Skubal.
The Tigers-Mariners game will have a game total line set at 6.5, the lowest of Friday's betting schedule.
Luis Castillo pitched 7 scoreless innings, striking out 8 in his last outing against the Pirates. It was an elite 99-pitch effort, but it's still impossible to compete with what Tarik Skubal has been doing since 2024.
Skubal arguably took the lead for the 2025 Cy Young Award. The Tigers' ace is already a Cy Young Award winner and is capitalizing on an excellent June in which the Tigers won each of his last 5 starts. His July 6 start against the Guardians was equally impressive. Skubal pitched 7 scoreless innings again, striking out 10, adding these numbers to his second-to-last outing, when Skubal struck out 23 in 14 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits. Unreal numbers.
