With the help of Juan Soto, the Mets defeated the Orioles 7-6 in Game 1. The Dominican drove in the winning run, Edwin Díaz earned the W, and Brazobán earned the save, both pitching one scoreless inning. The following day, rain prevented Game 2 from taking place. A doubleheader will be played on Thursday, but Game 3 scheduled for noon in Baltimore between the Orioles and Mets will maintain its original schedule, and, for now, the pitchers scheduled for it will be Peterson for the Mets and Morton for the Orioles.
The Mets are coming off a losing streak by winning consecutive series against the Brewers and the Subway Series against the Yankees. Soto has improved his numbers significantly, but the story of the week for the Queens team has been Soto's absence from the All-Star Game. The Dominican said he will remain focused on the Mets but admitted that he would have preferred to activate his All-Star bonus rather than have a few days off. Soto is hitting 269 AVG and has already reached 21 home runs, tying Alonso for the most HRs for the Mets in 2025.
The Orioles have two series remaining before the All-Star break. In their last narrow loss to the Mets, Holliday went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
