Holding an 8-2 record against the spread in their last 10 games, the Milwaukee Brewers will try to stay hot on the spread market as they attempt to overcome a -1.5-run handicap in Sunday’s series finale against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
The Brewers pushed their winning streak to 14 games behind a clutch three-run homer by Andruw Monastario at the top of the 11th inning. Relief pitcher Nick Mears also displayed composure to earn the final outs, squashing a late rally from the Reds, who managed to pull within one, 5-6, after Santiago Espinal and Noelvi Marte each drove in runs at the bottom of the 11th.
The 78-44 Brewers now own a 9-game cushion on the 69-43 Chicago Cubs in the NL Central standings. Cincinnati, which sits in third in the division with a 64-60 record, has dropped its last three games against the Brewers and five of its last six meetings.
