The Atlanta Braves face the Miami Marlins this afternoon. This NL East clash finds two teams trying to gain traction, though the Miami Marlins are closer to contention than the struggling Atlanta Braves. The Braves (48-66) have had a tough season and sit fourth in the division. Coming in, Atlanta had lost three straight games, including being swept by Milwaukee before a dramatic 8-6 comeback win in the series opener against Miami.
That victory, where the Braves rallied from a 6-2 deficit, snapped a longer skid and provided a rare bright spot. Even so, Atlanta has won just three of its last ten games. Consistency has been lacking: their pitching staff owns an ERA around 4.25 and often puts the team in an early hole, while the offense is averaging only about 4.3 runs per game with a team batting mark in the .240s.
The Marlins (56-58) sit third in the NL East and have been hovering near the .500 mark. Miami has also dropped three of its last four games, including that tough loss to Atlanta last night when a 6-2 lead slipped away.
Prior to this series, the Marlins lost two of three to the Astros, but just before that they swept the Yankees, a perfect snapshot of Miami’s up-and-down nature. Statistically, Miami’s offense has been a bit more productive than Atlanta’s (team batting around .253) and their pitching staff (about a 4.45 ERA) is comparable. Like the Braves, the Marlins have struggled to maintain momentum, but they have shown flashes of strong play against good teams and are keen to get back to an even record.

Our Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves Prediction
Atlanta sends out right-hander Bryce Elder (4-8, 6.03 ERA), who has been struggling mightily. Elder was shelled for eight runs in a start earlier this month and has generally failed to deliver quality outings lately, making it hard for the Braves to stay in games.
The Marlins counter with right-hander Edward Cabrera (5-5, 3.24 ERA), who has been in fine form. Cabrera has allowed just one earned run in each of his last three starts, consistently working into the middle innings and keeping hitters off-balance with electric stuff. If he continues that trend, Miami will have a strong platform from the mound.
Given the context, the Marlins appear to have a slight edge in this matchup. They have the more reliable starter going and a bit more momentum overall. Atlanta showed fight in the last game, but their pitching remains a concern, especially if Elder gets into trouble early. Unless the Braves’ bats stay hot and their bullpen can hold a lead, Miami’s balance and Cabrera’s form should carry the day. Our prediction for Atlanta Braves vs Miami Marlins: Marlins to win.
