The Mexican national team will face Turkey on Tuesday in a friendly match at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
Mexico had been appearing to renew its form since Javier Aguirre took over the national team once again, and they were riding high from their recent friendly against Switzerland. However, the outcome of the match revived old fears for them: they could achieve success within CONCACAF competitions, but nothing outside of them. On a positive note, Mexico displayed a resolute attack, and the AC Milan striker, the Mexican national team's key figure, was quick to tie the game momentarily at 1-1. However, defensively, Mexico had a game to forget: they conceded four goals, made numerous errors in their back line, and, even more worrying, lost many physical duels against the Swiss forwards in the previous friendly.
Turkey represents a team of similar caliber to Switzerland. The Turks are coming off a 2-1 victory over the United States, thanks to another fortuitous goal from Guler and another from Akturkoglu. Since Euro 2024, the Turkish national team has been on an upward trajectory; they performed well in the Nations League, where they moved up a division, and are preparing for their World Cup qualifiers in a group shared with Spain.
