On Friday, likely during the early morning for stateside viewers, there's ATP action in the German city of Stuttgart, where as the grass-court season starts to wind up, Marton Fucsovics will take on Taylor Fritz. On the face of it, this looks to be a nice opportunity for the American to advance and build momentum on this surface, but he's up against an in-form player, a player who has had longer to get used to the courts at this venue.
The Hungarian was involved in the qualifying rounds in Germany, meaning that he's now played four matches at this tournament, while Fritz has only played one. Last time out, against the higher-ranked Arthur Rinderknech, Fucsovics played very well, suggesting that he can definitely compete with higher-ranked players on this court type. He's also lost neither of his last two matches against Fritz, beating the American when the pair last met (at this tournament back in 2023), so don't be surprised if this is a little less easy for the world number seven than the early odds suggest.
