Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic will face Xinyu Wang of China in the opening round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open Championships.

Muchova enters the Wimbledon Open with only two grass-court matches at Queens under her belt, choosing to spend the majority of the grass-court season in training rather than competing in WTA-sanctioned grass tournaments scattered across Europe. Ranked No.15 in the world, Muchova captured her lone grass-court win against Maddison Inglis of Australia 7-6(5) 3-6 6-4 before falling to eventual Queen’s Tournament winner Tatjana Maria of Germany in another three-set match 6-7(3) 7-5 6-1.

Facing Muchova across the net is Wang, who racked up six wins in a row to reach the final of that WTA 500 Berlin Ladies Open. Wang, who made a run to the round-of-16 at last year’s Wimbledon Open, proved that she’s a force to be reckoned with on grass as she ousted several prominent names on her way to the finals, including two-time Wimbledon Open runner-up Ons Jabeur 6-1 3-6 6-0, former top-10 Daria Kasatkina 6-3 6-2, two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff 6-3 6-3, WTA top-10 Paul Badosa 6-1 ret. and top-20 Liudmila Samsonova 6-4 6-1. She also pushed 2023 Wimbledon Open champion Marketa Vondrousova to the limit before coming up short in the final, 7-6(10) 4-6 6-2.
