ATP veteran Frances Tiafoe of the United States and Roman Safiullin of Russia clash in the first round of the 2025 French Open on Sunday.
Tiafoe marches into Roland Garros with a 7-6 record on clay this year. The highlight of an underwhelming campaign on the red dirt is his final appearance at the 2025 US Men’s Clay Court championship, where he conceded the title to Jenson Brooksby 4-6, 2-6. Tiafoe also reached the round-of-16 of the 2025 Madrid Open, bowing to Italian Mateo Arnaldi 3-6, 5-7.
Safiullin have lost his last three matches heading into the French Open. His latest setback came against Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan 4-6, 6(4)-7 in the first round of the 2025 Rome Masters. The Russian wrapped up his clay-court build up with a 3-3 card.
