Chivas de Guadalajara is embroiled in an off-field controversy surrounding its veteran and star player, "Chicharito" Hernández. Beyond that, before traveling to the United States to compete in the Leagues Cup, Chivas earned its first win of the Apertura tournament, beating Atlético San Luis 4-3. Chivas should consider giving more playing time to Gonzales, who hasn't played more than 45 minutes in Chivas' last three matches but has scored three goals. This is the first time Chivas has scored four or more goals in 2025.
Chivas' opposition will be the MLS runner-up, the New York Red Bulls, who were thrashed by Inter Miami 1-5 and were also unable to prevent a 0-1 defeat against the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field.
