The Kansas City Royals finish off their series against the Chicago White Sox, with Ryan Bergert making his debut at Kauffman Stadium. Bergert came over from the San Diego Padres in an effort for the Royals to build for next season, as Kansas City thinks it’s close but not ready to compete for a pennant.
Even though Kansas City elected not to mortgage its future for an uncertain playoff push, the Royals still have a chance at making the postseason this season. And they’ve got the right opponent, as they’ve gone 6-0 against the White Sox in Kansas City. Kansas City has dominated the series all year, and Bergert has looked good in his first two starts in blue. This seems like a good time for the young hurler to show off to his new fans.

With Davis Martin on the mound, that’s probably not going to be enough. Martin hasn’t been a bad pitcher, but he needs run support to get a result. He has allowed between three and five runs in five of his past seven starts, and while that’s good enough on a good offensive team, the White Sox are not that. In each of his wins this year, he’s gotten at least four runs of support. But with Bergert pitching well, that doesn’t appear likely.
