After taking down the Los Angeles Lakers 111-108 at home on Monday, the Brooklyn Nets hit the road anew to face another elite squad, the Cleveland Cavaliers, at Rocket Arena on Tuesday. What a way for the Nets to snap a seven-game losing streak. Led by 19 points from Noah Clowney and 18 points from both Cameron Johnson and Keon Johnson, Brooklyn outgunned the undermanned Los Angeles Lakers, who is missing the service of LeBron James due to a groin injury. The Nets trailed the Lakers by 12 points, 16-28, at the first quarter but they erased that deficit with 32-point output in the second period. The Nets stayed in the driving seat for most of the second half before weathering off a late Lakers rally led by Luka Doncic behind some clutch shots from D’Angelo Russell and Clowney. The Cavaliers’ win streak has now reached 14 games following a masterful win over another Eastern Conference elite, the Milwaukee Bucks, 112-100, on Sunday. All Cavs starters, led by Max Struss’ 17 points, scored in double figures to sweep all four regular-season matchups with the Bucks this year.

The Cavs will enter the match facing a -18.5-point spread, which is by far the biggest handicap placed on them by sportsbooks this season. However, after seeing the Nets take down the Lakers on Monday, I am skeptical that the Cavs can cover this ginormous point spread. Cleveland has indeed been one of the best, if not the best, performing teams against the spread with a 41-23 ATS record. They are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against an opponent in the Eastern Conference. And yet, I am still not confident they can win that big against a team that has just earned a confidence-boosting win over the Lakers, regardless if LeBron James played or not.
