Chasing their first win of the 2025-26 English Premier League campaign, Wolves traveled on matchday eight to Sunderland, who had an impressive start. This match on Saturday at the Stadium of Light between the ninth-placed Black Cats and the bottom-placed Wolves comes with our prediction of both teams scoring goals.
It was a pleasant surprise even to the most ardent Sunderland fans that they found themselves in the top ten before this round. The Black Cats deserve their place, though, with some impressive performances at home. With some tough fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City scheduled over the next few weeks, the hosts would be keen to pick up full points here.
Winning a match has been a rarity for the Wolves, who remain the only side yet to do so this season. There are flashes of hope in the twin draws they posted before the international break, but those will count for nothing if they can't be consistent. Can the Wolves break their duck on this trip? Sunderland - Wolves: Form Analysis
Sunderland lost 2-0 away at Manchester United before the break, with the match decided by the 31st minute. It was their first defeat in five games (W2, D2, L1), but staying in the top ten is still a good achievement for the Black Cats.
Playing at home has brought their best, as Sunderland are unbeaten in their three league fixtures here this season (W2, D1). Having scored six goals in those three games, the fans will hope to see more goals from their team.
Sunderland scored all six home goals after the 60th minute this season!
Wolves would be cautious in their approach as they remain rooted to the bottom of the standings and three points away from safety. Both their points have come in their last two games, though, twin 1-1 draws against Tottenham and Brighton.
The draw against Tottenham was on the road, which helped them halt a run of two losses to Bournemouth and Newcastle earlier in the season. Interestingly, all three away league games saw the Wolves concede exactly once.

Sunderland & Wolves Squad Analysis
Reinildo Mandava will serve the last game of this suspension here, for Sunderland. Habib Diarra is also out of contention, while Noah Sadiki and Omar Alderete picked up knocks over the international break.
The Black Cats have lined up in the 4-2-3-1 formation over their last two matches, although they dabbled with the 4-3-3 system earlier in the season. The formation would be led by Wilson Isidor, who is their top scorer this season.
Isidor has scored in each of Sunderland's three home league matches.
Wolves have no injury concerns other than Matt Doherty, who is out after undergoing wrist surgery over the break. They are likely to continue with their 4-3-3 system, something which manager Vitor Pereira stuck to in their last three games.
The team is short on goals, with no player scoring more than one goal this season. Hwang Hee-Chan and Santiago Bueno could be crucial to their hopes of salvaging something out of this trip, with Bueno's goal earning a 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

Our Sunderland vs Wolves Prediction
It has been a contrasting start to the season for Sunderland and Wolves, who were predicted to be among the relegation contenders before the campaign started. While Sunderland have surprised everyone with a strong start, Wolves remain the only team yet to win a league match this season. The visitors can take heart from their last two matches, drawing 1-1 against Tottenham and Brighton, although failing to hold on to their lead.
This match could also see action from both teams, and our Sunderland vs Wolves prediction is both teams to score.
Sunderland vs Wolves - Other Interesting Predictions
Sunderland wins the match
Sunderland have won two and drawn one of their three home league fixtures this season. Their wins have been impressive in front of boisterous crowds, while the draw against Aston Villa was commendable considering they played more than an hour with a man down. Wolves may have drawn their last two matches but had lost five in a row before that. This match could be another addition to that loss count on this trip for the Wolves.

This is the first match between these teams since May 2018, when they both were in the EFL Championship. Since then, owing to the fact that they were in different divisions, these two haven't met. It will also mark their first Premier League match since April 2012, so history is just a piece of history, because a lot has changed since then!
Sunderland started their life back in the Premier League positively and have challenged some of the experts' projections. A win here will see them get 10 home points of the campaign and mark it the first time since 1968-69 that they did so from the first four home games in a top-flight season, adjusting to three points for a win.
Wolves have no problems in starting well in their games, as they went 1-0 up in each of their last three Premier League matches. What happened next was a problem, as they failed to win all three (D2, W1). If they do so again, it will mark the ninth occasion that a side has scored the opener in four or more consecutive matches in the competition without winning any!
Brace for a slow start by Sunderland, as only one of their seven Premier League goals has come in the first-half action, which is a league-low ratio.
